How Meditation Helps Insomnia
Insomnia simply is a chronic inability to sleep, I have
had many restless nights with only a few hours a sleep, Several nights
I spend fighting to fall asleep only to get 3 or 4 hours of sleep, I
had tried many different options to help me sleep, I tried things like
Tylenol pm, muscle relaxers and even was tested for sleep apnea and had
a breathing machine to utilize at night for the sleep apnea. That
machine made me feel as if I could not get enough oxygen, Insomnia can
make you crazy after awhile.
I was having a very difficult time breathing with it, I had to stop
utilizing the machine because it was so uncomfortable, and I was
getting very irritable from not sleeping so an acquaintance told me how
utilizing mediation had helped her. I went on the computer and found
out many ways meditation helps people for many different situations.
The first thing I learned is that having insomnia can also be a mental
thing,
You can actually train your mind to go without sleep, I know that I
dwell on the struggles I go through everyday and keep that on my mind
so I cannot sleep well, Through meditation I have learned to calm down,
relax and know that getting so bent out of shape over things I am
unable to change will just make things tougher. Now when I come home
after a draining day I don't let things get to me so much, I actually
first began my meditation in the morning before I left and again when I
come home.
In the morning I get out of bed about half an hour before then the rest
of my family so I can get some time to myself. I go into the kitchen
get something to read, a book or a newspaper, fix myself some coffee
and just meditate before I have to start my hectic day, When I come
home at night I have the realization that with my insomnia I will have
another night of tossing and turning so I start preparing for my night
after I get dinner prepared, the dishes done and kids to bed.
For my meditation at night I will begin by relaxing by listening to
soothing music, I will turn on a music station on my T.V and just kick
back and relax, I then get in a hot bath and sit there and let the hot
water relax away my cares. After I get out of the tub I do not stay up
for a while, since my body is now very relaxed I go straight to bed. I
have learned by staying awake watching TV after I am so relaxed will
only succeed in making it more difficult for me to sleep,
Since I used my meditation as I listened to comforting music and
relieved my stress with a hot bath why get upset by watching T.V. I
turn my fan on low crawl under the blankets take some deep relaxing
breaths and close my eyes. I can not say that I am cured and get 8
hours of sleep every night but I can say that utilizing mediation to
relax me has helped me to gain a few extra hours of sleep each night.
My husband also turns his radio onto a country station and turns it
down to low all night to help him fall asleep. You must not forget
meditation is simply clearing your mind of thoughts that frustrate you.
Once you have cleared your mind of all that is upsetting you it will be
to your benefit.
Relaxing is the key to having a better day and night. So find a way of
meditation that will help you relax and just enjoy your evening. You
deserve it and most of all after all you do for everyone you deserve to
take a few minutes a day of relaxing meditation.
